People caught using fireworks are subject to criminal citation and owners of property where illegal fireworks activity takes place are subject to fines. The ban is in place to reduce the risk of injury and fire as well as to be considerate of the impact explosions have on people with certain health conditions (including post-traumatic stress disorder), household animals and other vulnerable populations. A special City Fireworks Task Force will be enforcing the ban this year.
